canon introduced the earliest canon Digital SLR camera intended to be relatively affordable for advanced amateurs in 2000. This was the canon EOS D30 with 3.11 MP image. I bought a Canon EOS Digital Rebel for my wife that Christmas and it is still taking great pictures today. The picture quality was amazing and not having to buy film at every stop was a relief. This Canon Digital SLR was primarily responsible for digital SLR sales rocketing past SLR film camera sales in 2004. Canon sold 1.2 million in the first 16 months.
