I would like to know if it takes good action shots. I heard that it takes bad indoor shots (too dark) and I was wondering about that too. Please don’t complain aboutthe flash to me because I never use flash, I just don’t like it. Thanks for your help.

it doesn’t take bad indoor shots. The benefit of an SLR camera is you can change your lens into a more specialized one. For indoor shots I would suggest a fast lenses (f2.8 or faster) because it will allow you to take picture with faster shutter speed.
for what its worth, I’ve been using a 50mm f1.8 lens with the camera, and I can take indoor portraits without flash.
For action shots… however… like it or not – you’re going to have to use flash (external flash are recommended), unless if the place you’re in have plenty of light (like spotlights or something like that).
"bad indoor shots (too dark)"
if a photo is to dark it is the users fault and never the cameras, they need to learn how to set an exposure right.
xti is fine for indoor sports… wont have as accurate of auto focus as a $4000 1d camera but it will get the job done with practice(sports shooting is a harder thing to shoot so don’t expect perfect shots first time shooting)
The canon is a good camera, especially for the money but what is more important is the lens you use with it. Each lens will give different results, some are very expensive. I would recommend buying a 50mm f/1.8 lens to go with your camera it is cheap and excellent for low light and action situations.
Another camera to consider is the Nikon d40.
Are you talking new, and with or without a lens.
Over at B&H photo they are selling body only for $520. They are selling with the kit lens for $590.

The XTi is an excellent camera, it’s great for action shots… I shoot a lot of sports with my XTi…
As for indoor shots, it is great, depending upon the lens you are using or if you have it mounted on a tripod, or not. The kit lens is a bit on the "slow" side, meaning that the largest aperture 3.5, is not as large as a "fast" lens, which would have an aperture of anywhere from 1.2 – 2.8 (preferred for sports and indoor shots). If you are planning on getting the camera, and not using a flash, I’d suggest getting a lens with either an aperture of 2.8 or getting a lens with IS (image stability) to make up for the smaller aperture.
The camera is a good value for the money.
