Canon new digital SLR camera with "old" Canon film camera lens?

I am thinking of buying the canon EOS Rebel XS SLR camera , while I have the "old" canon film camera (AE1) with 3 camera lens: 50mm, medium zoom len and telephoto len.

I want to buy a zoom lens for my girlfriends canon EOS digital SLR for her for Christmas (sorry not sure the exact model). I have no idea about camera s and I have about £80 (US5). Is there something out there I could buy?

canon EOS REBEL XS EOS 1000D DIGITAL

Just been looking at that one but don’t really know what im looking at or for! i have wanted a decent camera for a while and this one is in my price range, but you can get it with different size lenses etc and i dont know the difference!

Pretty much every site out there gives you different information on each camera!

There are 3 camera s that I’m thinking of:

1. canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi

2. canon EOS 450D / Digital Rebel XSi

3. canon EOS Digital Rebel XS / 1000D

They all come in a Kit with 18-55mm IS lens.

Could you tell me which one is better (quality wise and easy to use) and why?

- canon – 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Zoom Lens
- Starter kit that comes with an extra battery, camera bag and a 58mm protective UV filter

All of this for 9. I want a camera that me and my wife can use. She is a teacher and I am a photo hobbyist. I wanted to move p to digital SLR.

I’ve got an older 35 mm canon EOS SLR. I’m seeing a lot of the 28-135mm zoom lenses on sale that come with the canon 40D digital camera s. Can I use that lens on my film camera ?
