I just bought a Canon 500D and I was wondering what would be the best lens/equipment to shoot live music?
I recently bought a Canon 500D and I wanted to know what lens I should buy and whatever equipment I may need to shoot live music but which will also be decent for portrait shots? £1500 max

Well 200mm f1.8 is the absolute best, though it’s hideously expensive.
So I’d say go for the 85mm f1.2 L USM (around Ā£1500) or 50mm f1.2 L USM (around Ā£1200) they are both ultra fast lenses and should give you a good chance of getting a good shot, plus their super wide aperture is handy for video too. You could also think about the 70-200 f2.8′s but they are relatively slow (2.5 stops less light), but the IS version may just work.
If you get the 50 or 70-200 you could also get a 580EXII which would be handy where you are allowed to use flash.

canon 500d camera lens?
im looking for a zoom lens for a canon 500d (rebel t1i) my price range is from £0.00-£200.00. any recommendations?

rob answers:
Canon EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III Lens is a perfect very low budget tele-photo lens that combined with a digital SLR will give you great results.
I have been using it for taking pictures of birds from the local nature reserve and then increase the magnification in the computer.
The lens weights 480 grams and the SLR will still feel well balance when taking pictures in the wild.
For under Ā£150 you can’t go wrong as a starting point for wildlife photography.

what is the best canon lens for taking pictures of objects and people? I’ll be using a Canon EOS 500D?
i am planning on purchasing my first camera, and plan to focus my photography on objects and people
rob answers:
I would strongly suggest starting with the 18-55mm kit lens that is commonly sold with the 500D. Start with this lens, may be add the EF-s 55-250mm IS to cover your telephoto needs and master the basics first. You’ll begin to define your own needs for faster, longer and/or better lenses. I say this because we all have our favorite lenses and no everyone will agree with our choices. I would strongly suggest checking out http://www.the-digital-picture.com. You’ll find lots of recommendations and very thorough reviews of Canon equipment at that site. Beyond all this, your budget is also a major factor to consider because you can spend anywhere from $100 to $5000 on lenses for your stated purposes. Whether the more expensive lenses are worth it depends on you and your needs but, it’s not unusual to spend more on lenses than you do on your camera.

Not hardly worth the effort, but you’ll find that out soon enough.
