Daniel asks…

Can anyone please help me find a genuine Hong Kong supplier of canon EOS 1Ds MARK III? Thanks and God bless.?

I am a student and trying to setup my own business to support my education and career. I am looking for a genuine supplier from Hong Kong who can supply me Brand New and Original Digital cameras. Mostly canon EOS 1Ds MARK III. Anyone out there know any genuine supplier(s)? I am sick of Chinese Scammers and Replicas, so please don’t mention them. Thanks in advance and God bless.

canon EOS 1DS MARK III VS EOS 1D MARK II?

I am interested buying a new camera and just wondering which one I should go with. The canon EOS 1Ds Mark III is very $$$$ and if it is a way better camera than the Canon 1D Mark II then I would rather go with it. Im just wondering if the camera is a lot better or about the same?

rob answers:

I agree with the above answerer, but I would recommend even more extreme downgrade. Both cameras you are asking about cost multiple thousand dollars, and are targeted towards professionals whose paychecks rely on their equipment. If you don’t personally know whether you need one or the other, then sorry to tell you, but you need neither. I have been on the sidelines at football games that ESPN broadcasts and have gotten great pictures that I needed for work with a Rebel XTi. I would recommend starting with this camera, as it will automate all of the functions for you, but will allow you to manually override specific settings, and then all settings, once you are ready to. Then, once you have experience, make your way to the 40D/50D, etc. And you will notice that you will be a much better photographer. If you get a camera above your skill level now, you are going to feel pretty bad when people with cameras 1/10 the value of yours are getting better pictures.

What is the difference between a Hasselblad and another pro camera like Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III?

I have noticed in TV shows that most Professional photographers (Rankin, Nigel Barker) use Hasselblads rather than the common Canons or Nikons. Is there a specific reason for this or is it that they just prefer that make?

Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III is OLDER than the Canon EOS 5D Mark II?

The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III came out in August 2007, and the Canon EOS 5D Mark II came out September 2008.

YET the older camera is more $$ ???

rob answers:

It’s not about which one is newer – the 1ds has greater production value for its ruggedness, longer battery life, faster and more accurate AF (albeit much heavier). I consider the 5d to be a lighter version of that, more suited for controlled situations since it’s not as responsive (relatively speaking) as a 1d series.

It’s not always about the megapixels and release dates.

What is reason behind the lower part of full frame camera 36X24 such as Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III and Nikon D3S ?

Hello
I found most of full frame cameras 36X24mm have an additional lower part . These parts like the motors that were connected to the lower parts of old 135mm film cameras .Also i want to know that these DSLR full frame have different max resolution (25-12)MP. So what is the meaning of resolution ? and on what reasons it depends ?.Does the meanning of 12MP (4000X3000) means the dimension of max image in mm?Thanks

rob answers:

The grip section is kinda a throwback from the early days of motor drive when motors were rather large and needed it’s own comparment. In the early days of the digital age much of the camera was contained in a this extended section attached to the bottom of the camera, this included a battery and a magnetic hard-drive. Now while minaturisation of technology has taken place, this bottom section has been kept for ergonomics.

It’s easier to shoot a portrait shot with a vertical grip. While almost all SLR cameras (including modern motor drive 35mm SLRs such as the EOS 1V) will all accept an aditional battery or vertical grip which allows easier portrait shots.

12MP=12 million pixels. Now 4000×3000 is the dimensions of the frame in pixels, and therefore if you multiply these numbers you get 12,000,000 or 12 megapixels.

In fact there is no limit to the maximum size of the image in SI units. You could have an image that was a 4 kilometres wide, and each pixel would be around a metre in width, but this would be the perfect size if you wanted to show someone standing on the moon a picture.
