Linda asks…

What movie recording mode should I use for canon rebel t2i?

I hate having to wait for it to process or whatever in windows movie maker because it’s so big. I want it to be smaller but still good quality for youtube and whatnot. Thank you. :)

rob answers:

I always shoot full res on my camera (5D mark ii). Windows movie maker is terrible to be honest for editing videos. Use Sony Vegas or Adobe premiere for editing videos. There is a wide range of codecs to choose from to reduce the size of the video so you can upload faster. Consider .mkv format, I like this format cos it can greatly reduce the file size while it keeps a lot of the video quality intact.

Like what photoace said up there you really want a fast PC, not necessarily a mac. See a mac has a great OS but it lacks the speed of fast PCs. But there is a solution to this. I have managed to install Snow leopard on my PC. Making like a mac OS but having the speed of my PC. I tried installing it on my other pc but it failed.

I use two PCs for editing my videos. I convert files on both pcs at the same time. Speeds everything up twice as fast. So when I have a few clips from a short film, I edit (special effects/colour fixing etc) half the clips on one pc, then the other half on the other PC. Then do the edit the clips down and join them into a movie one pc. There are so many advantages of having multiple PC’s to edit your videos imo.

PC 1: 3.2ghz Quad processor, 6GB RAM, 1.2 GB of graphics memory (A good graphics card really helps), MAC OS x snow leopard

PC 2: 3.2ghz duo processor, 4GB RAM, forget what the memory card is like, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

I buy my PC’s second hand PC’s off big computer nerds or idiots who don’t know how much fast PCs are worth lol! Saves so much money. I hope this helps. But advice getting two PCs to do the work!

Helen asks…

What camera bag should I buy for a Canon Rebel T2i with an 18-135 mm lens?

Question pretty much explains it. As cheap as possible, from a reliable site, preferably adorama since that’s where I’m getting the camera. Thanks in advance :)
I’d prefer one of the rectangular bags as opposed to a sling style, and please make sure it will actually fit a T2i!

What do you think of the Canon EOS Rebel T2i for a beginning photographer?

I’m looking into getting a camera for some amateur photography. Mainly, i was planning on photographing paintball, but i want something that is versatile. I cant really spend more than a grand on it, and from what ive read it seems like a good entry level camera. What do you think?

Thomas asks…

Why is my canon rebel t2i footage choppy?

Alright guys. So i have 4 gigs of ddr2 ram on my HP 6110 N. And when i want to edit the footage in adobe after effects its choppy. Is this because my processor or what?

rob answers:

Yes.

What do you have for a video card, too. (1gb cards are reasonable and pretty common)

At high res, the canon is running almost 2 gigs every 5 minutes (20 gigs/hour).

This will help a little:
In the composition window (top center, main preview window) In the lower left set the display fairly small, 25% or less. To the right (Just right of the three little colored circles, the channels icon) there is another drop-down menu item “Resolution/down sampling”, set it to Auto or quarter.

These settings only effect the display, not the movie being built or its rendering. This reduced resolution will open more processor and memory to play your clips.

That, or an i7 on an Intel MOBO with 16 gigs Ram and overclocked a mild 15% works well for me.

Sharon asks…

What is a good lens to get for my Canon Rebel T2i?

I am just getting in to portrait photography, but would like some input about lenses that would be good to buy. I have the ‘kit’ lens, but that is all so far.

rob answers:

If you got the money go for Canon 85mm F1.8 if you are in budget go fo Canon 50mm F.18 the 85mm is slight sharper and is more useful in portrait since is not too close.
