Michael asks…
can you Recommend DSLR Lens. canon Rebe2Ti?
I bought myself a canon Rebel T2i for Christmas
since then Ive learned to use Manual Setting.
I have the Kit Lens. which is 18-55mm
I also have a Zoom Lens of 75-300mm
at the time of buying the zoom lens I didnt realize how heavy n bulky it was.
So Im looking for a lens thats in between both the kit lens and a zoom lens
if there is such a thing, something with just a little more zoom than the kit lens has.
so I can use it everyday not just the kit lens.
im still learning so feel free to leave advise,

Consider getting a prime lens.
They will be much smaller
they will be cheaper
they will give you the ability to play with depth of field with wide apertures.
The one downside is that there is no zoom. However, i would argue that from a 17-55mm, i can easily adapt to a prime lens and just zoom with my feet. Stand closer, the picture gets bigger. Stand further away, the picture gets much smaller.
The 50mm f/1.8 is a good way to start. It is very affordable. Best 100 dollars ive spent on a camera . Since then ive come to adore my 24mm f2.8, which is such a nice focal length to carry around everywhere.

canon’s ‘Picture Style Editor’ Question?
I bought a canon Rebel T2i camera. The other day i looked at the CD’s it came with. Like the Manual and EOS Digital solution disk. On that disk, it has a ‘Picture Style Editor’. When i open it, it shows “Drop images here.” But i didn’t know how to do that, so i clicked File and clicked Open Image. I clicked on the FOLDER that i wanted (which has pics i uploaded from the SD card, which i used with the camera.) The folder opened and nothing was there. I went back on my desktop and clicked on computer, libraries, pictures, that folder, and my pictures were there. but not on Picture Style Editor.
As i looked for the picture i wanted in the program, it said “files of type: CR2, CRW, TIF,TIFF”
Does that have anything to do with it because all my pics are JPEG or whatever.
Am i suppose to upload them a different way?
IDK. pleaase help.

rob answers:
Since the program only accepts images such as CR2 and TIF, you can convert your current jpeg files to a TIF using a photo editing program such as Photoshop Elements or even a free program such is Irfanview. You open the jpeg and then SAVE AS a TIF.
“Drop images here” simply means drag an appropritate file with your mouse and drop it on the picture style window, though your method of opening a file is fine too.
You can not convert a JPEG into a RAW file (eg. CR2), but you can shoot RAW.
Check your camera image recording settings which give you an option to shoot RAW only, or RAW+JPEG. If you set your camera to the the later, both a JPEG and RAW files for the same shot will be transferred to your computer when you download them from the memory card.
As an aside, some photographers shoot RAW; others do not. I prefer not to because I don’t like the extra editing steps. The JPEG quality from cameras like the T2i is excellent and meets my needs. If I have a very special occasion, particularly when light is low, I’ll shoot RAW and only work on the RAW files if the JPEGs are hopeless.
You can edit RAW files in the Digital Photo Professional program that came with your REBEL. Or, if you like processing RAW files, there are other programs available for a cost.

Good way to learn about dSLR cameras?
I just got a Canon Rebel T2i , I am wondering what is a good website to learn how to use it efficiently (like manual adjust, focus and etc.). And how to use the camera, where to start? I am a beginner in dSLRS please help

rob answers:
Reading the user manual is the way to go! If you don’t have one then you can download the PDF version from Canon’s website.
Some websites I would suggest would be DPReview (as someone had already mentioned), Digital Photography School, and Cambridge in Colour.
http://www.digital-photography-school.com/
http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/
All are great sites with very good tutorials you can use as references when using your camera.
Heading over to the library would be a good idea as well. Pick up a book or two on photography and/or dSLRs and read up!

Nikon D5100 or Rebel T2i (550D)?
Hey everybody. I have a kind of specific question about these cameras.
I have been looking into buying a dslr this summer, and these two seem suited to my needs: the upper- end of entry-level bodies.
I actually am leaning towards the Canon because of the superb video mode, but my only dilemma is this:
My dad has this wonderful Nikon FA film camera that I use occasionally, and it has a few lenses with it, including the (manual focus of course) 50mm f/1.8. Since Nikon has backwards compatibility, I would be able to use it with the D5100, which is awesome. The other option would be to buy the Canon and eventually the Canon version of the 50mm f/1.8.
So do you have any advice on whether I should buy the T2i or the D5100?
Thanks!
Sorry for the length…
rob answers:
Camera bodies that accept interchangeable lenses are a system sale. If you can get more lenses for the Nikon that is worth real money. Otherwise you have to purchase the lenses yourself, which drives up the cost of your hobby.
Good Luck
