Where to get a good deal on Canon Rebel XTi?

I’m only kind of confused ‘cuz another person on answers said that a rebel XTI sells for about $500 w/ 28-80mm lens, but on amazon it says it sells for $1400, but it also says that amazon cut it by $200. I’m not sure who is right, and I can’t find a price listing on the canon website, so what would be the actual cost of it?
Also, returning to the main point, do you know where I can find a good deal on it?…

rob answers:

If something seems too good to be true, then it probably is. The Canon Digital Rebel XTi, is the newest version of the Digital Rebel line. Don’t expect it to be cheap($500) unless you are getting it from a ripoff store…then expect all kinds of upsells, wrong charges, bogus accessories or claims.

Do yourself a favor and buy from a reputable Canon authorized dealer. Check the Canon website for details.

Here are some recommendations for quality online retailers:
www.bhphoto.com
www.adorama.com
www.beachcamera.com

If you have questions on any other online stores, visit here:
www.resellerratings.com

On the right of the main page is a tab for looking at store ratings. I’d only pick one that falls within the 9/10 range and has a lot of reviews by customers. I’ll provide the direct link below. Enter the online store name in the box to the right that have “Enter STORE name” above it.

Where to find a waterproof case for my Canon Rebel XTI?

I’ve found jackets for my camera to protect it against rain, but not an actual case to bring it under water. Can anyone give any links to website shops for waterproof cases for my Canon Rebel XTI ?
I was actually thinking of a case that lets you take photos too. I’ve found some for other Canon cameras, but not for the Rebel XTI .
Thanks C_J_Ryan!!

There are at least 3 that I found.

The bad news it that even the least expensive costs more than your camera. The lest expensive one I found was a Nimar at $1150, the Ikelite at $1325 and the Sea & Sea one was $2500.

There are others if you google “Rebel XTI, underwater housings”.

But they’re all pretty pricey!

I’ve had very good luck with my Ikelite.

Does anyone know of lens that fit Canon digital rebel XTi’s that take great sports pictures?

I have a Canon Rebel XTi with a Tamron Af 55-200mm lens, though it takes good pictures… I’m looking for a new lens that takes great sports pictures. I’m would like to find a lens (for a resonable price) that takes good fast action pictures…Any suggestions?

rob answers:

First off, it’s not the lens that gets the good shots, it’s the photographer. The absolute best thing that you could possibly do to improve your sports shots is to practice by taking as many pictures as you possibly can, and reviewing the work of other sports photographers that you are impressed by. A truly talented photographer could take good shots with a camera phone if they were so inclined just as an awful one could spend thousands on equipment without getting shots that are any better.
Now that does not mean that better equipment is not going to help a better photographer reach his/her potential. The general “sports/action lens” is going to be a telephoto which it appears you already have with your 55-200. If you are looking for a “fast” lens meaning one that will have a larger maximum aperture to allow in more light to allow the use of faster shutter speeds in lower light conditions, then look for something with an aperture of f/2.8 or lower. Unfortunately, I highly doubt that any telephoto lens that you are able to find with that kind of speed is going to be anywhere near what you would consider a “reasonable” price so you better start saving. Your really better off keeping the set-up you have now, practicing, and avoiding the “lens envy” that you are undoubtedly getting seeing other pros around wherever you are shooting.
